<h1>Before the first call</h1>
<p>Sit down with the equipment you normally use, including the things left out of tidy desk photographs. Place the notebook beside the keyboard. Put the charger where it connects. Open the reference document or sketchbook that needs to remain visible.</p>
<p>Now check the screen and camera position. Light that falls pleasantly across the desk may create glare or leave your face in shadow on a call. Try another orientation before deciding that the window needs a new treatment.</p>
<p>Check the background too. If a shared doorway is behind you, people may cross it throughout the day. A different desk position can sometimes resolve both the interruption and the background.</p>
